We’re baacckkkkkkkkk. It’s your favourite time of the month (or maybe mine more than your’s): January’s heavy rotation playlist is here and it’s the first for the new year.
Will I be able to keep up with the music I listen to this year and not skip a few months like last year? I guess that’s a stay tuned type of vibe. BUT I am happy to be back on the blog and back with a new playlist (since playlist curation for me is LIT-CHERALLY my personality trait).
I will leave you with this (like I have and always will): there’s no way to describe the kinds of music I blasted this month sooo…
…I’ll let y’all be the judge.
Monte Carlo // Remi Wolf
I’m still so very far up Remi Wolf’s ass, it’s no joke. I LOVE her to pieces and was looking forward to seeing her in February, but unfortunately miss rona just wouldn’t let that happen for the time being (and yes, I am very sad about it).
Despite the fact that this song is a feel-good bop, Monte Carlo also makes for a great study song (in my humble o-pinion).
Doctor // Remi Wolf
In continuing with the Remi Wolf praise, Doctor is defined as my headbanging song. I just- love it so fucking much.
The Kissing Song // Diamond White
I’ve always appreciated the songs that Diamond White has put out, because I genuinely love her music, her vibe, and everything about her. The Kissing Song is one of those songs off her album that was a heavy repeat this month, and I happen to always put it on at night just before I go to bed (don’t ask me why, I don’t have a reason).
You’re The Reason I Come Home // Ron Pope
I cannot tell you how I exactly discovered this song because I honestly forget, but I was doing a product shoot for WOCDC’s candle collaboration and I had this song on repeat during the whole thing.
This song is around 12 years old (Spotify says the unplugged album that this song is featured on was released in 2010), but it’s the cutest little tune I’ve ever heard and I have a feeling I’ll be referencing this in every written medium I do.
I Don’t // Sabrina Claudio
I listen to Sabrina Claudio a couple times every month and I found that I would often pick a single song and cling to it for dear life, which I guess explains how I came to love this song.
I Don’t is just another one of those really cute little tunes that I tend to put on when I’m in my feelings (this is NOT the space to judge me, okay?)
Shake Body // Skales
No explanations here. I absolutely had to throw in an afrobeats track and Shake Body reigns as the heavy rotation winner for the month.
Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop // Landon Pigg
Name one cheesy coming-of-age, romance movie or teen-friendly TV show that Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop isn’t featured in…I’ll wait.
Timeless classic in my eyes and perfect for when you’re truly feeling it.
All For Us // Labrinth & Zendaya
Euphoria szn is back, thus All for Us is also back…on my heavy rotation.
Come on Mess Me Up // Cub Sport
Come on Mess Me Up was actually one of those songs that I heard once, really liked, and then added it to a playlist (or two), but then completely forgot about its existence until I randomly put that playlist on and it came up in the queue.
I genuinely love everything about this song, although I can’t explain it to you in great detail. Just know that this song was one of two songs that defined my January, and probably sets the tone for the rest of the year.
peas // boylife
Notice how I said in the previous blurb about the track above that it was one of two songs that defined my January. That is because this song is the other track that defined my January. I would not be surprised if Spotify Wrapped comes around in December, and this turns out to be my top song of the year because it’s just that good.
It’s got such a beautiful message behind it, and I feel like you can actually experience what boylife was going through while singing this song. It’s just a really beautiful and meaningful story overall, which is why peas comes in as my number one song for January’s heavy rotation playlist.
boylife is an extremely talented artist overall and I cannot wait to see where his career in music takes him.
Hey bestie! If you’ve made it this far and you’re reading this, it means you made it through the entirety of this month’s heavy rotation playlist without clicking off. Congratulations, you now get access to the songs that made it onto my honourable mentions list – the tracks that were too good not to add.
*Honourable Mentions:
Kiss the Sky // The Strokes ft. Wyclef Jean
INDUSTRY BABY // Lil Nas X ft. Jack Harlow
Peer Pressure // James Bay ft. Julia Michaels
Until next month…
ED out x.
