It’s your favourite time of the month: that time where I realize that my blog exists and a new monthly rotation playlist has been curated.
Again, I didn’t discover a lot of new music in April. I literally just listened to whatever my mood was telling me to listen to because April just wasn’t a great month. I really don’t know how I can describe the kinds of music I listened to this month.
So I’ll let y’all be the judge.
Levitating // Dua Lipa ft. DaBaby
Levitating was in my Honourable Mentions list on last month’s heavy rotation playlist and I bumped it every single day in April. This song is a vibe and a half. It kept me sane during this confusing, limbo-like month of my life.
Wine Slow // Gyptian
Wine Slow is my favourite Gyptian song of all time and I will always bump this song like it’s no tomorrow.
Savannah Grass // Kes
Listen, Savannah Grass found its way onto my heavy rotation after a Peloton ride and I haven’t been able to shake this song. Not that this song needs to be shaken, it’s a true soca masterpiece that deserves to be blasted year round.
Ruined // Patrick Droney
Ruined was added to Unfiltered’s official blog playlist on Spotify just last month. In the midst of all the confusion of April and me entering this sort of limbo, this song really spoke to me. I often had Ruined play as the first song of the day, last of the night, or the first whenever I’m working on a project.
Bumpy Ride Remix // Mohombi ft. Pitbull & Machel Montano
This version of Bumpy Ride is probably the superior version. I said what I said and my opinion cannot be changed. This remix really makes me want to act up.
Big Bad Soca // Bunji Garlin
Big Bad Soca always puts me into my bad bitch mindset when I really need that extra push. But this song is also the best song to listen to while you’re at work, I swear.
I’m Into You // Jennifer Lopez ft. Lil Wayne
I’m Into You has been out for a while now, but on a night where I was listening to my favourite Jennifer Lopez songs, this song came out on top. I haven’t stopped listening since.
On the Low // Burna Boy
I’m always listening to On the Low, but I was listening to this song the most in April.
Best Years // 5 Seconds of Summer
5 Seconds of Summer’s entire LP CALM is a musical masterpiece, but Best Years is easily one of my favourite tracks on the album next to High and Lonely Heart.
deja vu // Olivia Rodrigo
Olivia Rodrigo continues to serve. I swear she just doesn’t miss a beat and I know she’s going places. It took me a while to understand her hype and why everyone was obsessed with her, but it took listening to Driver’s License in full to actually understand. deja vu is an amazing song and hands down the one that defined and conquered April.
Hello, hi, hey! If you’ve made it this far and you’re reading this, it means you made it through the entirety of my third ever heavy rotation playlist without clicking off. Congratulations, because you now get access to the songs that made it onto my honourable mentions list – the tracks that were too good not to add (and you’ve definitely seen some of these songs before, sorry not sorry).
